Away we go!

Friday afternoon hits and its the officially start of Melbourne's long weekend! All because of 'the race that stops a nation!'. Yup! Its that time of year again, Melbourne Cup. Instead of sticking around in town, spending money on dresses and more alcohol (that I really don't need), the beau and I decided it would be a great opportunity to get on an aeroplane and go away for four days. Destination... Brisbane! 

Being one of the only people left in Australia to have not yet visited Queensland, we thought... why not?! How afternoon do you get granted a four day weekend for the sake of a horse race?!

The first morning we were in Brisbane we were taken by our friends to this gorgeous little cafe on one of the main streets in Ascot for breakfast. I absolutely adored the black and white awning, the fresh flowers out the front and the eclectic mix of furniture for tables and chairs.

A random sunny weekend in Victoria and it turned out to be the same one as we had organised to head to Sorrento for a weekend of friends, wine tasting and continuous consumption of food!

Several wineries and consequently, bottles of wine later, we finished at a friends house to eat more delicious food and while the night away with singing and dancing in the living room.

A big trend this summer is the maxi dress and particularly the maxi skirt. I picked up this maxi dress in the Sass and Bide winter sales and wasn't really sure about it when I tried it on. The top of the dress looked a bit funny on me. However, I bought it anyway (story of my life!) and have managed to rework it and use it more like a skirt by teaming it with a singlet and belt over the top.

Love it when you manage to make something into more than it was intended for!

Lake House

On the day of my birthday I was taken on a surprise road trip to Daylesford and to the Lake House for lunch. For those of you who don't know, the Lake House is an award winning restaurant/hotel/spa that is situated on the lake in a gorgeous township about an hour and half outside Melbourne. The menu changes seasonally according to local produce and it makes an attempt to produce everything on the premises from the bread to the charcuterie range.
I also received my brand new camera that morning so spent most of lunch fiddling around with the settings and zoom and just generally taking pictures of everything I saw!
